Nico’s Inspiring Initiative

It was the third of March, exactly a week after the beginning of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. Nicolas packed some of the equipment he had and went to Medyka. Medyka is the main border crossing where more than 30% of the refugees were fleeing to Poland every day.

Luckily our guy used to work in the film industry, so he had the essentials: a van, two tents, two generators, and a couple of benches.

He appeared in Medyka and realized nobody was there so he stayed. He quit his job and was on the path to becoming our Camp Site Manager, although he probably didn’t know that at the time. Such a smooth transition!

His main goals were to keep the refugees safe and warm which was very difficult since there were thousands of them and space just for around 50 people in the heated tents…

To be honest it’s not easy to write about all this. Maybe I will better share some photos from that time. They don’t provide the whole picture because we were too busy working to be taking pictures but let’s do it this way…
